Women In Distress is currently the only nationally accredited and state-certified, full service domestic violence abuse center serving Broward County, Florida. Founded in 1974 by Edee Greene and concerned citizens, Women In Distress began as the first refuge for homeless women in Broward County. Their mission to stop domestic violence abuse for everyone through intervention, education and advocacy is still being implemented through the creation of their newest emergency shelter and community outreach services. Today, Women In Distress has expanded by opening their doors to the domestically abused community at large and creating a new wing for families with special needs. UA partnered with this great organization in 2016 and has donated over $2,000 towards bringing awareness and support to domestic violence abuse.
